The NJORD AWES system is a groundbreaking solution for generating energy at altitudes of up to one kilometre.
We are opening a whole new chapter in the global renewable energy sector. We are taking clean energy generation to heights of up to a thousand metres, where the wind is strongest, most stable and full of untapped potential.
The NJORD AWES system harnesses the potential of strong high-altitude winds that traditional, stationary turbines will never be able to reach. Our autonomous energy kites perform precise, pre-programmed flights, converting powerful thrust into clean electricity. Together, they form a mobile, lightweight and fully scalable ecosystem that allows us to harness nature’s power in a way that was previously technologically impossible.
The continuous cycle of yo-yo energy production
01 Dynamic ascent phase
The kite performs dynamic flights in a figure-of-eight pattern, which maximises the thrust and lift of the entire system. As it climbs, the working line unravels, setting in motion a ground-based generator that produces a significant amount of electricity for your business.
02 Controlled coiling phase
Once the rope has reached its full length, the system automatically adjusts the position of the wing to minimise aerodynamic drag. The kite returns to a lower altitude, using only a small fraction of the energy previously generated, before the next cycle of the entire modern system begins.

Project title: Construction of an Airborne Wind Energy System (AWES) with a capacity of up to 50 kW
Project description:
The aim of the project is to carry out R&D work focused on developing an innovative, on a national scale, mobile system for generating electricity from wind energy – an Airborne Wind Energy System (AWES). Systems of this type generate electricity by converting the mechanical energy derived from the movement of a cable connecting a ground station (usually the size of a standard shipping container) to a specially designed kite. The element that sets the cable in motion is a kite flying at high altitudes (200–1,000 m), driven by wind gusts that are statistically faster than those closer to the ground. The system will provide a mobile, non-invasive alternative to traditional wind turbines and will enable the generation of electricity from wind energy in locations previously inaccessible, whilst reducing operating and installation costs. Such a system is not, for example, subject to the distance restrictions applicable to conventional wind turbines.
The scope of the project includes the implementation of an R&D module, comprising four tasks
Task 1 – Design and construction of the ground-based component of the AWES system (industrial research) Task 2 – Design and construction of the airborne component of the AWES system (industrial research) Task 3 – Development and testing of control algorithms (industrial research) Task 4 – Integration of the ground and airborne components – commissioning of the AWES system (development work) The project will result in an innovative AWES system capable of generating up to 50 kW during operational cycles.
